Based in Kochi
Local Sustainable Living is an evolving social enterprise from Kochi, Kerala. We bring people, products, ideas and communities together to explore more thoughtful ways of living.
Through commerce, collaboration, learning, and shared experiences, we’re trying to create fair opportunities for people to do what they love, earn from it, and build stronger local connections.
Established 2024

Local began with a simple question.
What if people could pursue what they love, earn a livelihood from it, and become more self-reliant, without opportunity being limited by money or access?
That question stayed with us for years. Over time, it slowly took shape as Local Sustainable Living. Not as a fixed model or a finished idea, but as an ongoing attempt to explore better ways of creating opportunities, strengthening local livelihoods, and building meaningful connections between people.
We don’t claim to have all the answers. We’re simply continuing the journey.

Local have always been shaped by the people and the co-existence which has become part of it.
Over the years, we’ve connected with makers, artisans, farmers, entrepreneurs, artists, students, volunteers, organisations, educational institutions, and community initiatives. There is no formal community structure, no memberships or registrations. We really don’t want to label it as a “community”, we see it as just a space, people coming together with shared values, different strengths, and a willingness to build something meaningful..
We believe good collaborations can take many forms. They can become something you make, something you experience, or simply a conversation that keeps going.
Most relationships begin with a simple conversation.
If you feel connected to what we’re trying to build, we’d love to hear from you.
Some of the most valuable learning doesn’t happen inside classrooms. It happens when people come together, share what they know, ask questions, experiment, and learn from one another.
Throughout the year, Local hosts workshops, demonstrations, conversations, skill-sharing sessions, community activities, and creative experiences led by makers, practitioners, artists, and professionals from different fields. Some begin with the desire to learn a craft. Others open up new ideas and ways of seeing. And some are simply spaces to meet, share experiences, and learn from one another.
Sometimes it begins with watching. Sometimes by asking questions. Sometimes by simply getting your hands involved.
The Store by Local is a curated collection of thoughtfully made products from local makers, artisans, small businesses and conscious brands. Behind every product is a story, a process and a person. We personally curate everything that becomes part of the Store, looking beyond a checklist to understand the intention, materials, process, quality, pricing and the people behind the work.
There is no perfect formula for becoming part of Local. What matters to us is integrity, transparency, genuine effort and a willingness to keep learning and improving. Because when you choose something from the Store, you’re supporting more than a product, you’re supporting the people, skills and stories that bring it to life.
Because when someone chooses a product from Local, they’re supporting much more than the product itself. They’re supporting the people who continue making it.
Stay close to the people, ideas and stories shaping Local.
